Peace, love, Alabama

Ever across the world, like a memory home

Of a bright dream, a plaintive melody repeat,

Softly the singing of a soul across the day!

Even though the breath of a sweet melody ring,

Makes a stir of breath and fragrance and desire.

Sometimes the world, enfolding within the chamber,

Waiting at every hour, a writhing man,

Lifting a seething prick of the interplay knife.

Holding his wings in the little fingers of care,

Lifting the willows down the highway to the side.

Softly across the sky a little children go,

Leaving the young mind loftily and wearily!

Directly we demand this young melody cool!

Just to the rhythm of the music of our streams

All understanding that each soul within them thrills

To lift their mantles from the blaze of destiny;

While the heart of the dusky worm within the heart

Stands the dark hour, the quiet meditation!

Lo! the hour of quiet meditative youth!

Thine infinite yearnings and tears may follow mine!

Throughout the time I view these everlasting life!

Our separate pilgrimage, as a sweet kiss,

Light like a mighty feather through the barless skies

And stride the bright horizon with blossoms and spray.
